Anna Rose

First of all, I’d like to say that I hope this comes off more sweet than stalkery, but we’ll see…

Last year, the older sister of my best friend posted on Facebook that she bought a winter hat and where she got it. To everyone else in her friend list, I’m sure, it was just information about a new hat she bought and where they could get one too. But to me, it was shameful. Why hadn’t I ever knit her a hat? It doesn’t take me very long and she lives in a cold climate where a warm, wool hat is often necessary. Why on earth should she have to buy a hat?! It just seemed ridiculous. So I asked her about her taste in hat style and color, and set off to find a good pattern. I didn’t find what I was looking for, so I decided to design one and thought since her birthday is in November, wouldn’t it be cool to design her a hat for her birthday? I did this over the summer. I used Madeline Tosh Vintage yarn in Fragrant and made a cool hat. And since the color is a rosy sort of color, it seemed appropriate to name it the Anna Rose Hat. (That might be where it gets stalkery, but I’m not sure…) Anyway, I wrote the basic pattern and put it all aside. After all, I had until NOVEMBER to finish the details in the pattern, make a second size, take adequate photos and mail her the actual hat.

Fast forward to November 8th when I took a trip to New York City and needed a hat to wear. This is when I realized how little time I had left and panicked.

I ended up wearing the hat for only about 10 minutes because it wasn’t as cold as I thought it was going to be. I was able to get my friend to take my picture in the hat, but I still don’t have great pictures to add to the finished pattern (you know, the one that isn’t finished).

Long story short – this is a preview of the Anna Rose Hat pattern and Anna, this is a preview of your birthday gift. Happy Birthday!

P.S. Message me your address!

  1. This hat is darling—perky and fresh while retaining a simplicity that makes it more appealing. You have a knack with design…
